Biological Activity:
Doxorubicin is a drug used in cancer chemotherapy. It is an anthracycline antibiotic, closely related to the natural product daunomycin, and like all anthracyclines it works by intercalating DNA. Doxorubicin also inhibits topoisomerase II and forms oxygen free radicals resulting in cytotoxicity. The drug is administered intravenously, in the form of hydrochloride salt. This drug performed growth inhibitory activity in MCF-7 (IC50=1μM) and MDA-MB231 (IC50 =2μM.
