Ban sale of RO filters without ISI certification: NGO tells NGT

An NGO has moved the particular National Green Tribunal seeking analysis on the sale of reverse osmosis (RO) water purifiers which lack ISI certification.

The particular NGO has alleged before the country’s top environment watchdog that RO purifier companies have put the wellness of the people at stake by promoting water filters which are not having ISI mark and were not strictly sticking with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) norms.

“The Agency of Indian Standards has arranged different parameters for drinking water and set it forth as Indian Regular Drinking water Specification (Second Revision CAN BE 10500: 2012), but the fact is they have given only the maximum acceptable limitations of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and different substances but there is no minimal level set for the same.

“The absence of BIS norms regarding minimum level of TDS and various essential minerals gives a full range of selling de-mineralised water, that is otherwise used in batteries and different industrial works, to RO filtration system companies and the drinking water industry, ” the NGO Friends said.
