Description
The ViPrimePLUS Anaplasma centrale qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Anaplasma centrale genome in blood samples.
Anaplasmosis is an infectious, non-contagious disease that affects humans and ruminants, such as cattle, bison, sheep, goats, deer and elk. The transmission is usually tick-borne or via blood transfusion. The infection occurs primarily in warm tropical and subtropical areas, where the ticks thrive. There are several species which are well-recognized, for example the Anaplasma marginale and Anaplasma centrale that cause bovine anaplasmosis, Anaplasma ovis which causes ovine/caprine anaplasmosis, and Anaplasma phagocitophillum which is responsible for human granulocytic anaplasmosis and also infection in dogs, ruminants, horses and sheep. Erythrocytic anaplasma such as A. marginale, A. central and A. ovis infect the red blood cells and induce haemolysis which causing anemia. Among the symptoms are fever, depression, dehydration, breathing difficulty, anaemia and possibly, death. However, most young calves rarely develop symptoms. Infected cattle remain as life-long carriers of the pathogens. On the other hand, A. phagocitophilum infects the neutrophils and circulates the host bloodstream. It may cause difficulty breathing, haemorrhage, renal failure or neurological problems where immunocompromised patients are more susceptible to more severe complications. Giemsa stain is still the commonly used diagnostic procedure however it lacks sensitivity and requires high expertise. Therefore, molecular diagnostics can be a more sensitive and specific alternative.
