Description
The ViPrimePLUS Babesia bovis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Babesia bovis genome in blood samples.
Bovine babesiosis is tick-borne protozoal infection occurring in cattle. The primary responsible species are Babesia bigemina, Babesia bovis and Babesia divergens. Babesia bigemina and Babesia bovis commonly infect cattle, water buffalo and African buffalo, while Babesia divergens favors cattle and reindeer. The transmission is via tick-borne and these are widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. B. bovis (more pathogenic) and B. bigemina are more widely distributed particularly in Africa, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. B. divergens is economically important in some parts of Europe and possibly northern Africa. The typical clinical manifestation of bovine babesiosis is haemolytic anaemia disease but it varies with species and host immunity. B. bovis infection being more pathogenic with high fatality rate may cause high fever, increased respiratory rate, congestion of conjunctiva, jaundice and neurological signs. B. bigemina infection exhibits signs of fever, parasitemia of 10-30% and red or black urine. Infected animals develop a life-long immunity against re-infection with the same species. Vaccines are commercially available.
ViPrimePLUS Babesia bovis qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
