Description
The ViPrimePLUS Chikungunya Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Chikungunya virus genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood, plasma and serum).
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an arbovirus that causes arthralgia, arthritis, fever and other systemic symptoms, resulting in stooped appearance of sufferers with joint pain. Although the infection lasts only two to five days, some cases may persist for weeks or months. Other possible complications that may arise involve the eyes, nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. Severe untreated cases may lead to death. It is often confused with the classic dengue virus infection due to similar clinical symptoms. It is carried and transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes to humans. Thus, real-time PCR test plays a major role in this area.
