Description
The ViPrimePLUS Ebola Virus (2014 Outbreak) RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Ebola Virus genomes in clinical samples (e.g. serum).
Ebola virus (EBOV) is one of the four ebolaviruses known to cause severe hemorrhagic fever with high fatality rate. EBOV genome is a single-stranded negative-sense RNA, belonging to the virus family Filoviridae. The natural Ebola virus host appears to be fruit bats and the virus is transmitted to the human population via close contact with blood secretions or other bodily fluids of such infected animals. The virus later spreads via human-to-human transmission through direct contact with infected people’s blood, secretions and/or bodily fluids, and by contact with contaminated surfaces and materials. The disease is considered an emerging contagious disease resulting in a death rate of around 90%. As the incubation period is 2 to 21 days, humans are not infectious until symptoms develop. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, and muscle pain, followed by rash, vomiting, bloody diarrhea and impaired functions of kidney and liver. Although many countries share some common antigenic types, EBOV strains within a geographic region are unique and distinct. Thus, early detection is necessary to avoid major economic losses.
ViPrimePLUS Ebola Virus (2014 Outbreak) RT-qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
