Description
The ViPrimePLUS Shigella qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Shigella genomes in clinical (e.g. faeces), and food samples.
Shigella sp. is a group of Gram negative bacteria which causes gastroenteritis, namely Shigellosis. The symptoms of infection usually resolve within 5-7 days. In severe infection, high fever may occur causing seizures in children, less than 2 years old. Transmission is through ingestion of contaminated food. The pathogens invade and destroy the cell lining the large intestine, resulting in ulceration and bloody diarrhoea. Several species are recognized as the common human pathogens, such as S. dysenteriae from Serogroup A, which is potentially epidemic, S. flexneri from Serogroup B, which accounts for many incidences in developing countries, S. boydi from Serogroup C, which is limited to the Indian subcontinent, and S. sonnei from Serogroup D which is more genetically diverge than the previous 3 species and is responsible for 2/3 of the cases in USA.
ViPrimePLUS Shigella qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
