Description
The ViPrimePLUS Staphylococcus epidermidis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Staphylococcus epidermidis genomes in clinical swab samples of the skin, wound and medical equipment.
Staphylococcus epidermidis is a Gram positive, cocci bacterium. This skin colonizer is a commonly known commensal that is also believed to provide protection to the host skin from being colonized by more virulent pathogens. However in recent years, it is also seen as opportunistic pathogen, especially in nosocomial infections. The ability of the pathogenic strains to form biofilm on inert objects, contributes to its major representation in the frequent causative agent involved with infections of indwelling medical devices, such as peripheral or central intravenous catheters (CVCs). The infection is usually introduced from the skin of the patient during device insertion. Second to S. aureus, S. epidermidis is responsible for many bloodstream infection, central nervous system infection, urinary tract infection, eye infection and endocarditis. Due to the increasing antibiotic resistance as a result of continuous exposure, treatment for the patients has remained a challenge.
ViPrimePLUS Staphylococcus epidermidis qPCR Kit is intended for research use only.
