Description
The ViPrimePLUS Streptococcus oralis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Streptococcus oralis genomes in clinical swab samples.
Streptococcus oralis is a Gram-positive, non-motile bacterium. S. oralis is most commonly found in plaque and dental cavities but is also capable of causing bacterial endocarditis and septicaemia in susceptible individuals. The bacterium enters the bloodstream through open wounds such as those created during oral surgery that eventually results in platelet aggregation and oxidation of iron in haemoglobin. Symptoms include loss of appetite, rash, joint pain, fatigue and prolonged fever lasting two to three days in a person with congenital heart disease.
