Description
The ViPrimePLUS Burkolderia cepacia complex qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Burkolderia cepacia genomes in clinical (e.g. sputum) samples.
Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc) consists of at least 17 closely-related species (B. cepacia, B. multivorans, B. cenocepacia, B. vietnamiensis, B. stabilis, B. ambifaria, B.dolosa, B. anthina, and B. pyrrocinia) of the β-proteobacteria subdivision. Some strains have economical value, such as those that could degrade pollutants in water and soil, strains that produces anti-fungal compounds and the nitrogen-fixing symbiont strains. However, Bcc are also important animal and plant opportunistic pathogens. Their great metabolic diversity enables easy adaptation to different environment, which is a challenge in the disease treatment. Cystic fibrosis patients are susceptible to the life-threatening Bcc infection, which colonizes the pulmonary airways and cause fever, bacteremia and lung infections. Bcc are also increasingly recognized as the new emerging nosocomial pathogens, particularly among the cancer patients. Thus, concerns over the use of biocontrol Bcc strains as plant-growth agents in agriculture have resulted in the extensive studies on the risk and interaction between the environmental and clinical strains.
