- CD52, clone HI186 is a mAb recommended for identification of CAMPATH-1 protein expressed on thymocytes, lymph, monocytes and macrophages. This reagent is effective for direct IF staining of human tissue for FCM analysis using ≤1 μg/106 cells.
This antibody reacts with the CD52-antigen (also known as CAMPATH-1), a protein of 6,6 kDa. It is expressed on male reproductive tract (epididymis, seminal vesicle), thymocytes, eosinophils, lymphocytes, red cells, monocytes and macrophages, but not on plasma cells, platelets or erythrocytes. CD52 plays a role in carrying and orienting carbohydrate. This molecule is expressed on lymphoid malignancies at variable levels and on epithelial cells of the epididymis and seminal vesicles. Its functional role is not well known but reports indicate that CD52 is a good target for complement-mediated cell lysis and antibody-mediated cellular cytotoxicity. Antibodies to CD52 have been studied in lymphocyte depletion experiments. It is expressed by most lymphoid derived malignancies, although expression on myeloma cells is variable.
