Reactivity: Reacts with the 97-115 kDa cell surface glycoprotein, E-selectin, also known as endothelial-leukocyte adhesion molecule–1 (ELAM-1). E-selectin is thought to be involved in the initial interaction of neutrophils with inflammed endothelium. CD62E is expressed on cytokine-stimulated endothelium, but in minimal amounts on unstimulated endothelium. E-selectin is heavily glycosylated. It has a calculated M.W. of 64 kDa, however, the protein runs at 107-115 kDa by SDS-PAGE.
Specificity: The antibody is specific to the human antigen E-selectin (ELAM-1, 115 kDa) that is expressed on activated endothelial cells. The ligand is expressed on neutrophils and may function as an early part in neutrophil binding to the endothelium. This antibody is expressed on cytokine-stimulated endothelium, weakly on unactivated endothelium, and is absent on leukocytes.
