For Participation in SACLA XFEL Facility, Nichicon is Joint Recipient of MEXT Prize in the Japan Industrial Grand Prix
The SACLA (SPring-8 Angstrom Compact free electron LAser) facility of the RIKEN Harima Institute, which includes power equipment provided by NICHICON CORPORATION, was awarded the MEXT (Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Prize in the 42nd Japan Industrial Grand Prix. SACLA is Japan’s first XFEL (X-ray free electron laser) facility.
Nichicon took part in the development of the power supply equipment for SACLA and successfully developed a charger with high level of precision—a margin of error of just 0.01%—required to ensure the stable operation of SACLA. The SACLA project uses 72 Nichicon ultra-precise high-voltage chargers and 70 modulators in the modulator power supplies for the klystron. Nichicon shared the award with eight other entities that took part in bringing SACLA to fruition.
The Japan Industrial Grand Prix, sponsored by the Nikkan Kogyo Shinbun Ltd. (Business & Technology Daily News), is awarded to industries and groups that develop and create innovative large-scale industrial facilities and structures or leading-edge technology facilities. This award is in recognition of the world-class performance of the X-ray free electron laser, which is the culmination of Japan's outstanding level of technology; the facility’s compact size compared to those in Europe and the United States; and its on-schedule opening for shared use.
Through participation in designated ‘National Key Technology’ projects like SACLA, Nichicon will continue to boost its technologies as it strives for developments that contribute to the advancement of industry and society.
