New Tektronix RF Measurement Field Tool Features the Industry's Broadest Digital Signal Capability
The RFM151 Enables Installation Technicians to Detect Ingress Not Found With Other Meters
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (September 12, 1997) -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) today announced the Signal ScoutTM RFM151, a digital services and analog video transmission field tool featuring the industry's broadest RF digital signal measurement capability. Designed for technicians deploying digital video and data services, this portable tool delivers highly repeatable analog and digital channel rf measurements. In addition, the RFM151 measures, identifies, and isolates upstream path interference signals (ingress), particularly in the return path of hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks.
Broad RF Signal Measurement Capability
The RFM151 provides the industry's broadest field tool RF measurement capability for digital signals; 5 MHz to 1080 MHz frequency range enables forward and return path coverage. The RFM151 features automated analog and digital channel analyses, and is the only measurement tool that provides an RF measurement of digital channel noise and distortion.
Forward path analog- and digital-channel level measurements are specified within ±1.0 dB (40 - 500 MHz), ±1.1 dB (> 500 MHz) across the instrument's operating temperature range of 0° -50° with repeatability of ±0.5 dB.
"Combined with Tektronix's exclusive three-year warranty, this and other electrical specifications provide long-term measurement continuity and performance assurance," said RFM151 product marketing manager, Jerry Harris.
QAM, QPSK, QPR, and VSB transmission can be activated using the RFM151's digital channel RF measurements set, which includes average power, desired-to-undesired signal ratio, and analog visual-carrier to digital channel average-power signal-level differences.
Ingress: If You Can't See It, You Can't Fix It
The RFM151 Spectrum Mode features a fast 1 sec/40 MHz span sweep update, and using the Window SweepTM capability, updates can be as fast as 50 ms. Sensitivity is typically better than -65 dBmV. Thus, technicians can locate, measure and monitor ingress that would not be detected with other portable RF measurement test sets.
The RFM151 augments diagnostic testing with a relative field-strength "sniffing" mode to find egress and local ingress. Inclusion of AM and FM detectors, plus a speaker, makes it easier to identify interference sources.
Additional Features of the RFM151
The RFM151 features a user-changeable battery, allowing extended field use and more-consistent field operating time.
Standard accessory CSS151 Signal Scout Software provides computer control of the RFM151, and remote control using a Microsoft Windows-compatible communications program and auto-answer modem. This software also provides limits and alarming, storage of measurement results, ingress trend reporting, and transfers of RFM151 displays to a PC.
Direct printing of any screen from the RFM151 enables convenient documentation of ingress, sweep spectrum or multi-channel/all channel level displays. In addition, on-board storage of measurement sequences allows easy execution of a test-point measurement series.
