Introduction:
Podocytes are a group of terminally differentiated cells located in the outer aspect of glomerular basement membrane (GBM). They have special morphology with multiple long foot processes that cover the entire outer surface of the capillary of glomerulus and form a tight barrier to filter the blood and form the initial urine1. These cells are very important to maintain the normal function of the kidney and podocyte injury could result in massive proteinuria and eventually kidney failure2, 3.
PrimCells is proud to isolate and provide the primary cultures of podocytes from Sprague Dawley rats to the research community. These cells have been isolated using traditional sieving method and are confirmed to express typical podocyte markers such as Nephrin, Synaptopodin and WT1 and can be a valuable tool to study the function of genes in nephrology and/or drug induced toxicity in glomerular injury.
