BXQ-2半自动试样镶嵌机适用于对不是整形，不易手拿的微小金相试样进行热同性塑料压制，成型后可方便进行试样磨抛操作，也有利于在金相显微镜下进行显微组织测定。镶嵌机在下列条件下能可靠地工作：海拔高度不高于1000米；周围介质温度不高于+40℃，及不低于-10℃；空气在相对湿度不大于85%（在20℃时）；周围没有导电尘埃、爆炸性气体及严重破坏金属的绝缘的腐蚀性气体；没有明显的震动和颠簸。
