Description | The Immortalized Human Tonsillar Epithelial Cells (E6/E7 HTE) were isolated from routine bilateral tonsillectomy patients and were immortalized by transfection with retroviral vectors containing HPV-16 E6 and E7. When compared to the primary cells, these immortalized cells retain the original morphological characteristics. The Immortalized Human Tonsillar Epithelial Cell line (E6/E7 HTE) is a suitable model for studies in carcinogenesis as it allows in vitro studies of epithelial cancer formation and the role of HPV in conversion of a normal cell to cancer cell. |

Propagation | Use of PriCoat™ T25 Flasks (G299) or Applied Cell Extracellular Matrix (G422) is required for cell adhesion to the culture vessels. Grow cells in ECM-coated culture vessels with the following conditions. The base medium for this cell line is PriGrow IV medium available from abm (TM004). To make the completed growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: Fetal Bovine Serum (TM999) to final concentration of 10%, 1% Penicillin/Streptomycin (G255), 25 μg/mL hydrocortisone (Sigma, St. Louis, MO), 8.4 ng/mL cholera toxin (Sigma), 5 μg/mL transferrin (Sigma), 5 μg/mL Insulin Solution (TM053), 1.36 ng/mL tri-iodo-thyronine (Sigma), and 5 ng/mL EGF (Invitrogen). Atmosphere: air: 95%, CO₂: 5%; Temperature: 37.0°C. |
